Athletic Injury and Transcending the Biological Body

Digital Painting Series + Experimental Animated Short 2021–Ongoing

  • Honor: USC Discovery Scholar, 2021

RoleArtist, Creator

The paintings deal with the fantasies, fears and bodily harm experienced by injured athletes, inspired by famous career-ending injuries and Nina's own experience as an injured athlete. Each cyborg is designed around the most prominent injuries of its sport.

The series led to the short film Olympian Factory: Quality Testing, about an athlete with Olympic aspirations who is put through quality testing by the athlete factory, becomes injured, and overcomes it through technology to achieve their goal.

The project received the USC Discovery Scholar Honor, awarded to students who have excelled academically while making a meaningful contribution to their field through exceptional new scholarship or artistic work.
